I follow a few bloggers who are very good at writing poetry. I love following your blogs, and some of you access deep emotions that I am not able to verbally express nearly as well as you. I was wondering why this is so hard for me, and then I realized it’s because this is what would happen if I tried to write a deeply sad poem:
MY SAD POEM
The rain drips
Down the windows of my dark life
But I see a puppy outside
EXCUSE ME, WHY IS THERE A PUPPY IN THIS POEM? THIS IS A SAD POEM.
It seemed too drab. It needed a puppy.
THERE ARE NOT PUPPIES IN SAD POEMS. FIX IT OR THIS POEM IS OVER.
I see a puppy outside…with a broken leg. It whimpers.
BETTER.
The puppy is sad.
He has a broken leg.
He licks his leg, but it does no good.
His boy comes and picks him up.
WHY IS THE BOY WALKING IN THE RAIN?
Because his puppy is hurt! What is wrong with you?!
THAT IS HOPEFUL! STOP IT.
The dog knows he is about to go to the vet.
He trembles in fear.
NOW YOU’RE GETTING IT.
But the boy gives him a whole bag of treats so he feels better and then the vet fixes the puppy’s leg good as new and by the time they get home – what do you know? – it has stopped raining and there is a giant rainbow over the house.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I’M LEAVING.
The end.
This is my favorite thing ever right now. I snorted tea out of my nose when I hit the fourth line.
Here’s my attempt at my appreciation poem:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue (I guess),
You are obviously special in a good way in your head,
Your poem cannot be considered anything other than an astounding success.
Jesus. We’re good at this shit right here. We should be famous.

This made me laugh out loud. I wish I could say I was drinking tea so I could have snorted it out my nose too. 🙂

It’s interesting the way poetry works. I never was able to confidently put ny thoughts in poetry until probably 4 years ago. Sometimes when I’m feeling depressed it just flows out, as if it is writing itself. Other times, I cant come up with a single line. Everyone needs to find their own way of expression in their own time, I think. 🙂

More Poetry! THIS is my favorite kind.
And here’s my sad attempt:
My mind is a YMCA.
How many people peed in my pool?
What is that stain on the towel?
Can’t somebody do something about the stinky-feet smell?
Don’t talk to me when I’m naked!

Love your poem. Gave me a good chuckle. I don’t believe there is ever any ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ poetry. If it comes from your soul, its poetry

Hahaha! What’s funny is that your blog is totally one of the ones I was thinking of when writing the top part of this post (the “why can’t I do that?” part). I love your poetry.

Thanks so much!!! Its a rhyme thing in my head. Sometimes my brain just thinks in rhyme and one or two lines will pop into my head and I can’t get rid of them unless I write it down. Some of the fancy poets look down on rhyme, but as I said, I don’t believe there can ever exist a bad poem if it comes from your soul. And I absolutely loved your poem 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hahahahaha! I think we should make a poetry group on here or something. That was fabulous.

I was sitting in class, scrolling thru your blog (because it’s awesome), and I literally just snorted so loud that everyone turned around and looked at me. I help run a “sad poem blog” and your poem, and all the poems in the comments, are better then anything I’ve written in months. This may have been the spark I needed to get back on the Bandwagon. Thanks. -Winfrey

For some reason I’m just now seeing this comment (it must have gotten lost in pending comments somewhere). Thanks so much – it made my day to know I made someone laugh!! I have mad respect for people who can actually write sad poetry effectively, haha, but thanks for liking me even though I can’t. 🙂

OMG, I love this. You’re so funny. I’m not going to lie to you I was looking for dark pieces to draw comparisons to my latest post, https://ruthmercury.wordpress.com/2017/02/04/the-problems-with-fire-video/, but this was such a lovely, hilarious and amazing surprise. I think you might like the book ‘A Little Something Different’. Some chapters are written from the perspective of a squirrel and I have a feeling you would like it 🙂 x
